With Larry Bird already out with a back injury, the Celtics' Bill Russell had left the game with a knee injury early in the opening period, and the Raptors very unexpectedly found themselves up by four after the first period. Then the Celtics turned up the defense and held Toronto to 39 points in the final three periods, as the Celtics walked away with an 86-66 win. Kevin McHale led the Celtics with 18 points off the bench as John Havlicek, Sam Jones, and Paul Pierce held Toronto's Vince Carter to 5 points for the game. Morris Peterson led the Raptors with 14, while Chris Bosh contributed 13 points and 14 boards.
Team Rebounds: Bos 64-39
