Paul Pierce led eight Boston players in double figures as the Celtics easily defeated the Indiana Pacers 130-103. The Pacers led midway in the second quarter when the Celtics closed Indiana's attack with their vaunted defense. Don Buse led Indiana with 18 points as the Pacers fell for their fourth straight contest. The Celtics won easily despite being without stars Larry Bird and Bill Russell, and losing John Havlicek and Robert Parish in the fourth period with an injury and foul trouble respectively.
