Dave Bing missed a three-point attempt at the buzzer as the Boston Celtics defeated the Detroit Pistons 113-112 in a thriller at Auburn Hills. Larry Bird scored 30, leading 5 Celtics in double figures. Bob Lanier led the Pistons with 23 points and 15 rebounds. The Pistons loss leaves the Celtics, 76ers, and Hawks as the only unbeaten teams in the Eastern Conference.
