Miami almost overcame a 27-point first half, but ran out of gas as the Houston Rockets held off the visiting Heat 103-92. Moses Malone led Houston with 22 points and 18 boards, while Robert Reid chipped in 19 off the bench. Alonzo Mourning led Miami with 23 points, as Miami failed to take advantage of Hakeem Olajuwon's injury and lost their first game this year.
