Elvin Hayes led Washington to a 108-99 victory over the Bobcats in the first game of the season. Gus Johnson and Wes Unseld chipped in with double doubles, and Kevin Loughery had 17 points and 10 assists for the Wizards. Boris Diaw led Charlotte with 22 points and 8 rebounds.
