The Lakers sominated with their defense to open both halves as they won 119-95 over the crosstown Clippers on opening day. The Lakers had a balanced attack led by Elgin Baylor's 17 off the bench. James Worthy was injured in the opening minutes, with no timetable for his return. Eric Piatkowski provided a big lift for the Clippers in the 2nd quarter and finished the game with 22 to lead the Clips.
