The Washington Wizards spoiled David Robinson's return to the Spur starting line-up as they snapped their own eight-game losing streak with a 109-100 victory in San Antonio. Elvin Hayes led seven Washington scorers in double figures with 28 points and Wes Unseld dominated inside with a 17-point, 22-rebound performance. George Gervin led San Antonio with 29 points, but Tim Duncan and Robinson were thoroughly outplayed inside by Hayes and Unseld.
