New York played inspired defense and John Starks led five Knicks in double figures with 19 points, as the New York Knicks upset the Detroit Pistons 99-82. Walt Frazier had seven assists for the Knicks as Willis Reed grabbed 15 rebounds before he got hurt in the fourth quarter. Bob Lanier led Detroit with 15 points as the Pistons lose ground in the Midwest Division.
