Injuries and a furious second half comeback were the stories of the day in this 96-89 victory for the Memphis Grizzlies. The Nets lost three key players early in the game and pieced together solid performances from a reputedly weak bench to nearly come back to beat Memphis. Pau Gasol led the Grizzlies with 22 points and 12 rebounds as they join a three-way tie for second place in the Southwest Division. After losing starters Mike Gminski and Kerry Kittles and key reserve Chris Morris in the opening moments of the first period, the Nets clawed back to take their first lead of the game 81-80 with Bill Melchionni basket. The Grizzlies responded with an 8-0 run of their own and won easily, especially after Buck Williams and Richard Jefferson fouled out.
